If you are looking to bust out of a mundane rut or can't find a good place and time to have sex at home, sex in the car is a fun possibility.

Having sex in a semi-public place can be a huge turn-on for some. For others, it might be the only private space they can find. The car might be where you had your first kiss since the car is where you say goodbye to your boyfriend or girlfriend after a date. Not to mention everyone knew about that prime make-out spot — Lookout Point or Makeout Ridge — where the high school kids would fool around in cars without their parents knowing.

If the idea of car sex intrigues you, you probably have questions: Is it illegal to have sex in your car? How common is car sex, and who is doing it? What are the best positions for car sex? Find the answers below.

Of those with car sex experience, 84.6 percent report having had full intercourse in the vehicle.

Results showed that 84.4 percent of respondents had had sex in a car at least once.

The study also found that car sex is not just for the young. The practice is widespread and spans generations. For baby boomers, Generation X, and millennials, intercourse is the most common sexual activity reported. Despite intercourse being the most common sexual activity, oral sex and mutual masturbation rank more satisfactorily, overall.

There are probably a few reasons for oral sex and mutual masturbation ranking higher in satisfaction. Given the tight confines of cars, these acts would be less complicated, quicker, and easier to hide from prying eyes. Oral sex and mutual masturbation are also more common in same-sex sexual encounters, and the study abstract did not elaborate on the sex or gender of the other parties involved in these trysts.

Whether from convenience, necessity, or kink factor, Americans of all sexes and all age groups have tried car sex and enjoyed it.

Best Car Sex Positions

Once you decide the reward outweighs the risks, you'll want to know which positions work best in vehicles of different sizes.

Here are the eight best positions for car sex and where to use them:

Seated Rear-Entry

Arguably, the seated rear-entry position might be the best car sex position as it works in any vehicle, even the smallest of cars. Kat Van Kirk, sexologist and couple's therapist, says, "The best car position is with him seated in the passenger seat and with her on top, facing away from him for some rear-entry access."

Rear entry does not necessarily mean backdoor entry, though this position works well for both vaginal and anal penetration.

Being on top, you control penetration depth and speed in this position. You or your partner can also easily access your clitoris for additional stimulation. Facing forward provides leverage for you, as you can use either the seat back in front of you or the dashboard to control your movement.

Cowgirl

Cowgirl is the classic "girl on top" sexual position. To perform the cowgirl in a car, have the guy lie down in the backseat, back floor, or even the passenger seat fully reclined and as far back as possible. Climb on top of him and lean forward over him a bit. He'll penetrate you from below in this car sex position.

The cowgirl style gives good clitoral stimulation. The positioning with you pressed forward into his pelvic area allows you to move as needed to control penetration speed and apply friction to your clitoral area.

Headspace is the primary concern with this position. If you are particularly tall, be careful not to whack your head on the car's roof. It also requires some leg space for the guy to lie down, meaning the cowgirl position won't work well in a smaller vehicle unless you both are on the shorter end.

Cargirl

The cargirl position is a seated version of the cowgirl. Have your guy sit upright in either the back or passenger seat with the seat slid back as far as it will go. Straddle him on your knees, tucking your legs against the outsides of his thighs. Either wrap your arms around his neck and shoulders or hold onto the back of the seat for leverage.

Both partners can help with the thrusting rhythm in this position. If your partner's legroom limits his ability to thrust, have him try opening and closing his legs to help move you up and down and make things less taxing on your legs and feet. You could also squat over him on your feet if that position is more comfortable for you.

For a fun variation, try having your guy sit with his legs crisscrossed. Climb on top of him and wrap your legs around his hips. This takes up less space than cowgirl and works great in smaller vehicles where movement is more restricted. You may hear this alternative referred to as "the Om."

Reverse Cowgirl

In reverse cowgirl, everything works the same as the cowgirl position, except when you climb on top of your guy, you'll be facing away from him. This position takes up the same amount of space as the cowgirl position, requiring enough leg space for the guy to lie down.

You'll also need to watch out for your headspace in this position. Be mindful not to hit your head on the roof of the car.

This position does not provide clitoral stimulation as readily as the cowgirl position, but you can use one hand to stimulate yourself in this position if desired.

Doggystyle

Doggystyle provides excellent g-spot stimulation for the lady. The classic positioning has you on the seat on your hands and knees. Your guy positions himself behind you, also on his knees, penetrating you from behind.

He uses his hands on your hips or shoulders to control the thrusting. You can also push back and help maintain the rhythm that feels best for you. Leaning down, so your chest is on the floor or seat, might also increase your pleasure.

If you park in a more secluded area, modify this position to provide more space by backing up to the edge of the seat by one of the doors. With the door open, the guy stands behind you on the ground and performs the same rear-entry penetration activity.

Doggystyle is small space friendly. With both of you on your knees, it reduces the risk of banging your heads against the roof. It should also work well on smaller backseats if the guy keeps his outer leg on the floor and his inner leg folded on the seat at the knee.

Backseat Bender

The backseat bender position makes terrific use of both the back and front passenger seats. In this position, the guy sits in the backseat, facing the front passenger seat. Fold the front passenger seat forward — away from you — and shift it towards the backseat to provide a platform for your back to rest on.

Typically, you'll use this position for oral sex. Still, the creative positioning of that passenger seat lets you modify the cowgirl position into a seated cowgirl position, so you can lean back and rest.

Seashell

The seashell position is a fun variant of the missionary style. In the backseat or on a truck or SUV floor, lie on your back with your legs stretched out. Have your partner positioned between your legs, knees on the seat, and feet against the side of the car.

Once in position, he can lift your legs, making more room for himself. Depending on your comfort, hold onto your legs and keep them either by your head or near his shoulders. Your partner then braces himself on the seat for maximum thrusting control.

With a bit of finagling to find the best body part placement, this car sex position allows for deeper penetration, g-spot contact, and clitoral stimulation, as your partner's body will slide along that region as he moves.

The seashell position will be somewhat challenging in a small vehicle if your guy is tall. It requires space for your partner to extend their body almost entirely. However, if he fits in the backseat, you can use this position in any size and type of vehicle.

On the Hood

If you're in a particularly secluded area and feel safe doing so, you can exit the vehicle and use the hood or trunk of the car for support. Try this in a standing missionary position. Lie your back on the car's hood with your hips at the edge. Have your partner stand between your legs for front-entry penetration.

Alternatively, you could stand in front of the hood and bend over, resting your torso against the hood while your partner stands between your legs for rear-entry penetration.

This car sex position puts you at a much higher risk of being seen and potentially getting in trouble. Unless you've got legs for days, it requires a low-profile vehicle, which rules out trucks and many SUVs. To try this position, you'll need to carefully measure the risk versus reward. But this position provides the most space and freedom for each person to enjoy themselves without risk of injury.

Final Thoughts

Being adventurous in your sex life can increase your sexual pleasure. Try out different methods both in the bedroom and out of it to find the things that work best for both people.
How Do Card Games for Couples Work?

Anyone can sit around and talk about work all day. However, some people prefer hearing about games they play on their phones or their consoles. Others are more interested in gaming than others realize.

Playing card games can be an excellent activity for couples who want to relax and enjoy each other’s company. If you are not interested in gaming, playing card games probably won’t lead to casual conversation. But if you are both highly entertained by the concept of playing card games while sitting around a table with some individual cards displayed on a board, then chances are you will find a way to have a few laughs and add some variety to your day.

There are a variety of different card games available for couples to play.

Games like TableTopics are straightforward to play, whether at home or on a long road trip. Once you have the couples’ game out of its packaging, you can each swap pulling and reading a card. Then, depending on what the card says, one of you or both will answer and continue moving through the deck. Because of the portable nature of the game, it is great to play anywhere.

Factor in the low cost, and you have a date night that won’t break the bank, and that’ll last for many nights to come!

Do Couples Games Improve Relationships?

One of the most effective ways to improve your social skills and build essential relationships is to play card games. Card games are a fun and creative way to get to know people. They can also be a way to ease stress and build relationship credibility.

Games can help reduce the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder and how it impacts your daily life. The fear of rejection is heightened when you aren’t sure what to do or how to do it. Social interactions can be nerve-wracking because we aren’t used to being liked or accepted.

Being accepted by someone helps to reduce your general anxiety around fear of rejection. Especially when you are playing a game with someone, going through something new together, and learning, you can help drop those fears around rejection and replace them with feelings of love and acceptance.

Couples Who Play Together Stay Together.

Couples who play card games are better able to handle stress. Card games for couples often start as a game of verbal jousting, but as they get more involved and engaged in their roles, the games turn into more of a strategic affair. As a result, there’s less time each player has to worry about strategy and more time each player has to focus on actions that will directly contribute to winning the game.

When you’re together focused on a specific goal, nerve impulses firing together makes it harder for you to feel anxious or stressed in interactions with others. And, you can learn how to process at the moment together.

With card games for couples like TableTopics, you have ample opportunity to learn new things together (about each other). Whether you have been married for decades or you have just started dating, TableTopics has a vast array of questions covering topics you are almost guaranteed not to have discussed.

The more information you can learn about each other, the deeper your connection and the stronger you’ll be.

Four Reasons Why Card Games for Couples are Exciting.

First, Many Couples Grow Frustrated With Each Other Over Small Things. As a Result, They Argue Less and End Up Becoming Even More Isolated From One Another. Instead of Wasting Time Arguing, Try Playing Card Games for Couples.

Why is this the first reason? With a suitable couples’ game, playing cards will put you into a position where you have to get vulnerable and try something new with your partner. This vulnerability will open up new lines of communication and opportunities to safely share. In addition, you will learn new skills that you can bring into different spaces within your relationship.

What happens when you play a couples card game like TableTopics? The result is the second reason why couples should play card games.

Second, When You Play Games Like TableTopics, You Get Your Feelings Out Into the Open and Discover What’s Bothering You.

In a safe space, you have an opportunity to share your dreams or what you want from your partner. By uncovering new information about each other, you can strengthen your bond and spark love in your relationship. Honesty and creating a safe, honest relationship are essential tenets of any good relationship.

The Third Reason Is That Card Games for Couples Are Good for You and Your Relationship.

Not only are you provided with an opportunity to learn new skills. But, you get to test your patience and diligence. And, concentration and a focus on being present are required to play the game successfully.

And Finally, the Fourth Reason Why Couples’ Games Like TableTopic Are Worth the Investment. We All Need a Little Time Out of Our Day To Think Clearly and Address Our Current Priorities and Long-Term Goals.

Card games are a great way to take care of those needs and have fun while doing it! Whether you do card games as a habit or like to play with friends when you need a pick-me-up, there are some tremendous cognitive benefits to making these small activities more accessible to us.

Spending time on couples’ games doesn’t have to mean taking hours out of your weekend to play a game. Instead, by making a habit out of playing new games together like TableTopic, you will find how easy it is to learn new things about your partner and bond over fun experiences.

There are No Age Limitations to Play a Couples’ Game or Different Card Games for Couples.

Card games can provide a wide range of benefits for older adults. Card games, especially those for couples like TableTopics, can be highly supportive. This support is great news because these games tend to be free and can be played anytime, anywhere! Not only does academic success depend on better memory function, but solving puzzles can also help seniors stay focused and engaged.

Couples’ games can create new habits, relieve stress, teach good study habits, and even increase happiness. In addition, playing card games can help improve positive emotions.

When played in groups, card games for couples can pass the time nicely and help you feel less stressed and more pleasant after completing the activity. Additionally, others have found that playing card games can improve physical health by releasing neurotransmitters associated with stress in the body.

So essentially, playing card games for couples is an easy way to take the focus away from your system and help alleviate symptoms of burnout — which is good because there aren’t many things that can help with that as you age.

Card Games for Couples Make Everyone Feel Seen and Heard.

There are many ways to improve your mental health in general, including learning self-help books and taking care of yourself physically. But sometimes, it can be challenging to figure out how to make positive changes in your life. For example, maybe you don’t have a concrete goal in mind, or you don’t feel like you have the energy to work on something right now. That’s where card games like TableTopics come in.

Playing couples’ games can strengthen your relationships, teach you new skills, help you relax, make you happier and more positive overall. TableTopics has several questions on a variety of topics. If you play the game, you are guaranteed to encounter a question you haven’t thought of before.

And, card games for couples are a great way to spend time together. Plus, you’ll bond over a hobby, interest, or interest in a different area.

Card Games for Couples Can Bring Passion!

It’s a great way to keep the passion alive in your relationships. Playing couples’ games together builds trust and makes each other laugh, making each other happier and more relaxed. Thus, games play a significant role in adding excitement to the relationships in your life.

Both partners in a relationship need to feel good about themselves, even if it’s just for a moment, so it’s natural that you would want to boost your partner’s self-esteem. Card games can be the perfect outlet for doing that.

Couples’ games are filled with all kinds of little rewards that can build up your score and make you feel better about yourself. These are excellent things to pass the time together and can help reduce, or even eliminate, the feeling of negativity in your relationship. When we find ourselves stressed out or upset, playing card games can help.

Playing card games for couples is a great way to clear your mind and quiet your fears. It’s also relaxing and will help you unwind during stressful days. Couples’ games can be simple or complex. It doesn’t matter as long as it’s enjoyable. Some card games can even be educational with teaching you card strategies and tactics, while others are just silly and entertaining.

Summary.

Most of us, at some point, have played card games with our friends or siblings. But have you ever thought of playing card games with your significant other? Not only can card games be fun for all ages, but they can also improve family relationships, friendships and even spark “romantic moments.”

There are so many benefits to playing card games with your significant other. First, playing cards will help create better habits during your game time. Second, card games can teach you all sorts of lessons – whether it’s how to handle money or if you’re learning new rules that involve counting and strategy, all of these things can carry over into your daily life.

Other couples’ games can also help reduce stress and increase happiness by sparking new conversations and thinking positively about wins and losses. Even just choosing a deck of cards will help you spend better, more focused time with your spouse.

Playing card games for couples might seem like a hobby reserved for youth, but you’ll be surprised to find out how much they can benefit your relationship. Card games (like TableTopics) engage both players and can lead to laughter and new conversations.

New questions and conversations can help to eliminate boredom in relationships and bring couples closer together. Playing card games with your partner is an excellent way to reconnect and increase intimacy because it will get you talking about something other than the chores and bills piled around the house.

Explore the reasons a guy might keep you around even if he doesn't want to be in a relationship with you.

Navigating romantic relationships in the 2020s is like walking backward through a minefield wearing noise-canceling headphones. You often have to take that next step on faith, having no idea if it is the right move with the right person at the right time.

When you take that leap of faith and try to form a romantic relationship with someone, it can be hurtful if they make you feel like they don’t want one as well. And especially if they give off all the “I want you” signals, but can’t seem to take that final step toward commitment.

Do you find yourself in this situation? Do you wonder why he keeps you around if he doesn’t want a relationship with you? Here are eight reasons he might be behaving that way.

Reasons Why He Keeps You Around if He Doesn’t Want a Relationship

1. Avoidant Attachment Style

Why does he keep you around if he doesn’t want a relationship? It could be that he has an avoidant attachment style (sometimes referred to as the avoidant-dismissive attachment style). The avoidant attachment style is a condition in which someone is stunted in their ability to form healthy emotional attachments with other people. Take a closer look.

What Is “Attachment?”

In his book John Bowlby and Attachment Theory, psychiatrist Jeremy Holmes states, “A person’s attachment status is a fundamental determinant of their relationships, and this is reflected in the way they feel about themselves and others.”

In psychology, attachment theory posits that humans are born with a powerful need to form tight bonds, or relationships, with others. In particular, how you bond with your caregiver in the first six months after birth determines how well you will form emotional bonds in relationships throughout your lifetime.

If you don’t form healthy bonds with people early in life, it stands to reason you will struggle with forming such bonds later when they are much more complex.

Avoidant Attachment Style in Adult Relationships

This attachment style may be the reason someone values independence to the extreme. When you show them your own need for intimacy, they entirely withdraw and go into self-preservation mode.

Sometimes people are cruel in how they withdraw. They may diminish your feelings or hide things from you. If they get married, people with an avoidant attachment style are apt to have extramarital affairs.

This type of treatment can feel like you’re being strung along. If the guy shuts you down any time you want to share your feelings, or if he checks out any time the relationship starts to gain depth, he may be incapable of tolerating true intimacy.

If he wants to form a relationship but doesn’t seem to be able to do so, he could try therapy. If he has never been to therapy, he may not realize his challenges around forming natural relationship bonds. Since bonding is necessary to build a healthy, committed relationship, he may struggle without understanding why. Otherwise, you will need to keep it casual or consider moving on in this situation.

2. Commitment Issues

His commitment issues could be due to his avoidant attachment style, but it could also be good old-fashioned fear of what a relationship means in his life. Some people form attachments but fear what it may change for them. This can manifest as avoidance of the topic of commitment purposefully dating people with whom you’re not compatible, or actively sabotaging relationships before they have the chance to bloom.

If you’re wondering why he keeps you around if he doesn’t want a relationship, or you suspect he might be having commitment issues, keep an eye out for some of the following signs:

He fails to commit to any plans and only wants to spend time with you in the spur of the moment.

He avoids the conversation or changes the topic when you bring up the idea of a future together.

He might even show visible discomfort when you give hints you want more.

These signs could indicate he is avoiding a deep relationship due to commitment issues. If these don’t apply to your situation, perhaps he is showing signs of something else, like insecurity.

3. Insecurity

One possible reason he keeps you around even if he doesn’t want a relationship could be his insecurity. The root of insecurity is a lack of confidence, which can manifest in several ways.

It can be difficult for anyone entering a relationship to meld together separate lives and identities into a healthy one. If he already feels a lack of fulfillment in his life, he might carry that into his relationships, which could cause more difficulty. Even though insecurity in relationships can manifest as codependency, it can also have the opposite effect. Someone suffering from insecurity might react with withdrawal, dismissal, or distrust.

It can often feel like he doesn’t trust you and your feelings even though the doubt is all in his head. That can take a severe toll on you and the relationship (such as it is). Even if you know about his insecurities, it can send you into a spiral trying to figure out his true feelings or questioning your own self worth. His constant doubts about the validity or sincerity of your feelings for him could cause you to doubt them yourself.

4. Fear of Commitment

Could his resistance to forming a relationship with you be a fear of commitment instead?

You hear about “commitment phobia” all the time — and especially in men. Whether in movies, television shows, books, or those Cosmopolitan articles that make women feel poorly about themselves, the topic is everywhere. Unfortunately, it gets misused when referring to men who simply don’t want a committed relationship. There is a big difference in not wanting to commit and being actually, truly fearful of commitment.

There exists a very real phobia about commitment, which is not the same thing as “commitment issues.” This phobia is a mental condition which has a profound and damaging impact. Choosing not to commit is one thing, but feeling paralyzing anxiety when you attempt to do so is another thing altogether.

Phobias of any sort are considered anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are more than the average, everyday anxiety or nervousness that everyone experiences. Anxiety disorders involve frequent and intense worry and/or fear so extreme that it can impair one’s ability to lead a normal life.

The clinical name for the most common commitment phobia is gamophobia. Gamophobia is the intense fear of long-term relationships, including marriage. It can be treated like any other anxiety disorder, so don’t despair if you or your guy suffers from it.

Some symptoms of gamophobia include:

The inability to talk about the future

Refusal to apply a label to a relationship

Defensiveness or agitation when you attempt to understand their emotions about the relationship

Always pulling conversations into casual topics whenever feelings are brought up

If your guy is trying to overcome commitment fears or gamophobia, he must start by learning to love himself. The next step is acknowledging that he wants to form a healthy relationship.

Suppose he can do those two things through hard work, support from people who care, and perhaps professional therapy. In that case, commitment issues can be overcome, allowing you both to reap all the rewards of a committed relationship.

5. Loneliness

The above are a bit on the clinical side.; however, his reasons for keeping you hanging on without wanting a committed relationship might be more superficial. Perhaps he is simply trying to avoid loneliness in his life.

He could like you well enough, realize you’re not “the one,” but keep hanging out with you anyway. If this is the case, he might be prolonging his time with you to stave off his own feelings of loneliness.

Some people live their best lives outside of romantic relationships, but others feel lost if they don’t have someone they can always depend on to spend time with. If he’s looking for the right person but hasn’t found them yet, hanging on to you might be a way to avoid lonliness until the “right” person comes into his life.

This is a pretty selfish way to handle matters of the heart — especially if you feel more intimate feelings for him and he’s not being open about his intentions. If you feel you’re being strung along to fulfill some temporary hole in his life, it might be best to tell him it is just friends or nothing with you from now on. You must think of your own well-being.

6. Friends With Benefits (FWB)

If he keeps you around but doesn’t want a relationship, he might want a friends-with-benefits (FWB) setup. For people who are not in nor wish to be in a committed relationship, FWB can be a fantastic way to still feel connected to someone while keeping things casual. It only works, however, if the arrangement is explicitly discussed and you both agree to the terms of such a relationship.

Casual sex isn’t as taboo as it once was. For some people, casual sex can only be possible if they know and like the other person. Trust is key when you share something so intimate without the safety net of commitment. Not everyone can have casual sex in the forms of one-night stands or hook-ups with strangers. If you have fun with him and trust him enough, you could consider just going with the flow and having a good time.

Some of the ways you can ensure a FWB arrangement is safe and fun for you both are to set expectations from the start. Don’t be in an FWB sitation with someone with whom you already have romantic feelings. Don’t expect anything more than you would from any other friend in this arrangement, and be transparent with each other.

If, however, he isn’t open and honest about his intentions, this is also a selfish approach on his part. It requires that you are both comfortable with the arrangement. If your feelings grow more intense once you start sleeping with your friend, even if you initially agree to a FWB arrangement, it will always leave you feeling unfulfilled.

7. Keeping His Options Open

Dating is hard. Dating to find a committed relationship is even more challenging. He may casually date more than one person until he finds the perfect match.

Some guys like to date several people at a time, waiting until they are sure they’ve found someone compatible who makes them happy before embarking on an exclusive long-term relationship.

Dating around or playing the field isn’t inherently wrong as long as he is respectful and honest with you. It is best to assume the guy you’re spending time with isn’t exclusively seeing you until you’ve talked to him about it and both agree to take the relationship to the monogamous level.

If he leads you to believe he’s exclusively spending time with you but is still pursuing other women, then you’ll need to clarify your boundaries with him. Even if you’re comfortable with a casual relationship, he shouldn’t mislead you.

Ask him what he wants from you and determine if that matches what you’re looking for from him. If he wants to keep things casual but you want an exclusive relationship with him, it will cause friction and hurt feelings.

8. He Has a Girlfriend or Wife

If you find he’s avoiding committing to you, it might be because he’s already in a relationship. He could be in an open relationship, in which both parties see other people. If he;s an open relationship, he should be honest about it. If he is not upfront with you about this, however, chances are high that he is cheating.

If you suspect he is already in a relationship, ask him outright but understand that he may very well lie to you. If he is cheating on someone and didn’t tell you about the relationship before, he will likely lie to you about it now.

If you confirm that he is in a relationship with someone else, you’ll then need to decide if he is a guy you want around or not. Are you okay with being with a guy in an open relationship with someone else? If he isn’t in an open relationship and is cheating on his partner, are you comfortable with that?

Should You Stay or Should You Go?

Regardless of why he’s keeping you around but not committing to a relationship, it all comes down to whether or not the guy is a positive or negative presence in your life. You have valid reasons for ending things if he is using you, lying to you, or indicating that he doesn’t care about your needs and feelings.

If he is a good guy and stays honest with you about his intentions and needs, you might be able to keep him around if that is what you want. If you both agree on the status of the relationship, there is no harm in keeping a casual fling or FWB situation going while you each pursue your individual long-term goals.

Most importantly, you will need to explore your own intentions and where this guy fits into them to be sure you’re choosing the best option for you.

Consider:

Do you enjoy spending time with him even when you know he is not interested in more from you?

Do you worry that even knowing the limitations, your attachment to him might grow and leave you at risk of a broken heart in the future?

Would keeping the status quo with him make it harder for you to find the healthy relationship you’re ultimately seeking?

Is he open and honest with you when you have questions?

The answers to these questions will lead you to make the best decision. The bottom line thing is that you maintain open, honest communication. Each of you should share what you think it means to be in a committed relationship and indicate whether or not you want that from the other person.

If you decide trying the casual thing sounds good, revisit these questions from time to time. Periodically open a dialogue with him to ensure this is still a healthy situation for both of you. If there are any indications that the arrangement is harmful to either party, be the one to make the tough decision to end things, or at least modify the arrangement to minimize any risks.

Women are under a lot of pressure from society, family, peers, and social media to find that perfect guy, marry the best husband, and have kids. Thankfully, those standards are not as common in the 2020s, and women are realizing that sex and relationships don’t always need to lead to a long-term relationship. It is okay to have casual relationships just for fun.

If a guy indicates that he wants something casual, there’s no harm in joining in the fun if that interests you. Making the healthiest and safest choices for yourself is key to navigating today’s romantic landscape. Remember: Not every relationship has to be a stepping stone to long-term commitment. Letting yourself relax and enjoy the moment could turn that minefield you once walked through into a peaceful meadow.

Lucia D. is a world-renowned expert on relationships and dating. She is highly sought-after and has held many roles in the relationship/dating space including syndicated columnist, keynote speaker, and host of “The Art of Love” radio and television shows. She has also authored two books: No Contact Secrets and Lucia’s Lessons of Love. In this article, she discusses how to get one’s ex back after a breakup while still respecting their decision to have distance.

Six Things to Remember After a Breakup

Whether your ex asks for space after a breakup or not, you shouldn’t be in contact with them anyway. You should immediately go to what’s called, “no contact.” That means that you leave them alone and absolutely do not reach out no matter how miserable you feel. If they want to reach out to you, they will. That’s the only way that you will have a chance at winning them back.

2. Unless you cheated or took your ex for granted, you should never contact an ex when they request space. If you cheated or took your ex for granted (meaning that they weren’t a priority and didn’t feel they were important to you), leave them alone for at least 30 days and then reach out.

3. If an ex asks for space you need to respect their request. By reaching out because you miss them or feel anxious, you’re showing that you don’t care about what they want and are only interested in what you want. This isn’t a great trait to have as a partner.

4. You can respect their request for distance by not texting them, calling them, asking their friends or family about them, or showing up at places where you know they will be.

5. In not respecting an ex-partner’s request for distance, you will actually be pushing them further away and will prove that they made the right decision in breaking up with you in the first place. You are also showing them that you do not respect boundaries and cannot control yourself.

6. If your ex doesn’t respond to your phone calls or text messages for nine months or longer this is a clear sign that they are probably never coming back. Another sign that you have lost them permanently is if they change their contact number and block you on all social media. The most obvious indication that things are over for good is when they take out a restraining order.

Divorce isn't a catastrophe, not with Divorce Recovery Expert Fiona Eckersley helping you achieve confidence, security, and control over your life.

Fiona Eckersley is a confidence coach, author, and divorce recovery expert who helps women after midlife divorce to achieve confidence, security, and control over their lives.

As a 45-year-old stay-at-home mother of four, Fiona was blindsided by divorce. Having lost all sense of who she actually was and where her life was heading, she spent years grappling with self-doubt, negative emotions, and toxic relationships before finally realizing her personal worth and understanding how to positively move forward.

Fiona uses her experiences to help other women avoid the years of searching she endured and provide a clear pathway to their new and better life. Following are some important questions and answers from Fiona Eckersley.

What Does a “Recovery” From Divorce Mean and How Do You Know When You’ve Fully Recovered?

According to the Social Readjustment Rating Scale, divorce is second only to the death of a spouse for trauma.

There are usually very strong negative feelings that come with the end of the marriage. Anger, shame, guilt, and fear are generally the strongest.

A recovery would involve:

Being able to eliminate having these negative emotions as a part of your daily life.

Being able to stop looking back on the idea of the life that you thought you would be living as part of a couple and instead start to put yourself, physically and emotionally, as a priority in your life.

Being able to begin the process of creating your vision for how you want your future to look, which is a real step forward towards recovery.

Is anyone ever fully “recovered?” Trauma is hard to forget, but you can move on from it rather than get over it.

An ideal goal is when you can wake up one day and realize that you’re living life on your terms and that you no longer hold onto blame or guilt towards your ex-partner. In fact, if you don’t even think about how it impacts your life anymore, that’s a significant move towards recovery.

What Type of Mindset Are People Commonly Left With During and After a Divorce? What Is the Biggest Way You’ve Seen Divorce Impact One’s Mental and Physical Well-Being?

There are several challenges that can arise. These cause us to lose peace of mind and forward momentum to the life we would really love.

The negative emotions mentioned earlier, added to a feeling of loss of control or an idea of being a “victim,” are often very powerful after a divorce from a long-time spouse. They can impact all areas of life.

Among the mental health impacts are a loss of confidence and an inability to trust one’s own judgment. Also, the feeling of losing identity and fear of an unknown future. All of these combined add to a rise in negative self-talk, which can cause one to spiral further into stress and anxiety and lead to very real health issues, such as a higher higher incidence of depression and high blood pressure.

With all of this going on, relationships of any kind are difficult to maintain, work becomes much more stressful, and just getting through the day, making small decisions, or setting goals can feel like an impossible mountain to climb.

What Is the Best Mindset One Should Have As They Start to Navigate a Divorce?

As difficult as it may seem, being able to be responsive rather than reactive is the best way to handle whatever is being thrown your way as you begin and go through this process. Try not to think of yourself in terms of having this done “to you.” This will lead to calmer communication and lessen stress.

Knowing that you only have control over your own actions will help you to let go of a feeling of trying to “fix” the other person. It will also help you to understand that any negativity directed towards you from them comes from their own trauma, not from who you truly are.

Hold on to who you want to be, not necessarily what they say about you.

I would also add that being able to let go of negative people around you is very important. It could be hard because it’s a time when good friends seem to disappear. However, anyone who’s interested in nasty details or seems to want to “stir the pot” of negativity is not your true friend.

What Are the Main Steps One Should Take to Make Sure They Can Thrive Following a Divorce?

As outlined in my first book, Fearful to Fabulous, there are seven steps for thriving after your divorce. Everyone would have varying degrees of need for each.

These are:

1. Stop focusing on what your ex is thinking and what you thought your life was SUPPOSED to be.

2. Face your financial realities.

3. Eliminate bad habits that you may have started as a coping mechanism.

4. Reframe some emotions, such as blame or guilt.

5. Identify the inner voice that’s lying to you about your abilities and who you are.

6. Understand the new relationship dynamics in your life now. Maybe with friends or relatives, or even your own children.

7. Start to identify your goals and passions in your life. It’s now your chance to become the person that you want to be as you move forward.

What Are Some of the Most Beneficial Forms of Support One Should Seek When Going Through a Divorce?

I would add an eighth point to my ideas above, which is almost more important than the others. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help — whether that be from friends, a counselor, or a coach of some kind. You need someone with whom you can talk through your thoughts and who will also provide you with accountability to push through hard times.

There’s nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about, and trying to go it alone can add more stress and prolong the process of recovery.

If you're looking to grow closer to your gorgeous girlfriend, here are the top dirty questions to ask her.

If you’re looking to grow closer to your girlfriend or you want to discover a new way to get her hot tonight, you’ve found the best way to do both things at once. No matter if you’ve only been her partner for a few weeks or long enough to know that your girlfriend is your soulmate and you can’t go a day without her, these dirty questions will be fun and hot for everyone involved.

“My experience is that the teachers we need most are the people we’re living with right now.“—Byron Katie

Byron Katie, a world-renowned sex and relationship expert and author of The Work, knows a thing or two about romance. Think of these questions as a way of allowing your girlfriend to be your teacher in life, by getting to know her on a much deeper and sexier level. These questions will best be used when you’ve got plenty of time, with no poking or prodding. Take it slowly, make it fun, and show her that there’ll be ZERO judgment and that you can show your girlfriend that she can trust you with her most hidden nuggets of sexual treasure.

When executed properly, these dirty questions to ask your girlfriend can be a build trust and break the ice in a fun and kinky way. Most of all, it can be purely educational. These dirty questions will be sure to have her ready to interrupt the game for a romp on the couch.

Are you ready?

New Relationship: Romantic and Flirty, Plus Semi-Deep Questions

The guidelines for this first round of dirty questions are expertly curated for the new relationship. The last thing you want to do is to overstep your partner’s boundaries! Don’t forget to use these romantic questions when you both have time to delve deep into each other. Minimize distractions and set the mood by packing in the candles and wine or coffee—depending on taste. Most importantly, just stick to this level of the game until you and your girlfriend level up in your relationship.

Use the following deep questions to show how you can be a remarkable partner by actively listening while remembering key points of what you’re learning.

It’s important to proceed with caution with each deep question. Be sure to pay attention to her body language and respect her boundaries. At this point in the relationship, you may just be getting to this phase where you want to know everything about her to show that you are boyfriend or girlfriend material. If you’re going through all the related articles here to get to know her better, then you most likely are girlfriend or boyfriend material! Be brave and ask her these questions:

What is a dirty truth about your family that no one knows? Any well-kept secrets or scandalous affairs that you know?

What is your favorite way of being cuddled like spooning, face to face, or do you enjoy being cuddled? Or are you the cuddler?

Do you have any regrets in your sex life, career life, or social life?

Relationship of a Year or More: Dirty and Dare Questions Plus Romantic and Naughty Questions to Ask Your Girlfriend

As you reach each new milestone with your girlfriend, you may think that you know everything about her. Let’s get real, though! Everyone has feelings, interests, and passions that change with time. Plus, what you don’t know is that she may be willing to do the kinkiest thing with you that she wouldn’t have done at the beginning of the relationship. We’re starting this thing off right by giving you the tools to get her to answer these “dirty questions to ask your girlfriend,” but it’s all about asking her the right question and timing. Many of these dirty questions can be attached to a dare (hence the dare questions of this list). We’re also getting you primed to ask romantic questions that may be a bit naughty, but isn’t that what you came here for? Let’s get in her head to see what she truly wants from her boyfriend, sex life, social life, and life in general.

Dare and Dirty Questions to Ask Your Girlfriend After a Year of Dating or More

However, if you see a funny question that may elicit a funny response, ask away. If you ask, you’d have already made your girlfriend laugh and want her to want to keep playing or simply reminisce with you about the old days of your then-budding relationship for which this question-and-answer game would’ve been useful. Whatever it leads you two toward just go with the flow. This is a proven bonding technique and who doesn’t want to bond closer to their girlfriend whenever they can?

Are You a Demiromantic? A Guide to “Growing in Love”

A detailed look at what it means to be "demiromantic" -- and what it doesn't mean. A guide to the laws of attraction and ways relationships are built.

Have you ever had a great friendship or other non-sexual relationship in which you bonded so close to that person over time? During that time, did you feel a romantic attraction — like a chemical reaction — in your body that you’d never felt for this person before?

The reality of the way romantic attraction works, exemplified above, can be as diverse as the people who experience it. In a generalized description, people fall into one of two categories. One category is the “primary attraction” — the “love at first sight” which is so common that it’s the way to an instant rom-com blockbuster hit.

The other way to develop a brand new love interest to someone who isn’t all that new to you is deemed the “secondary attraction,” which is quite a bit more complicated than the first. This is also called the “demiromantic” attraction.

Many non-demiromantic people may be asking “Why does this happen?” This article should answer that question.

First, know that regardless of which path you take to find love, it is the right one. There is no single “right” way to form a relationship — only the way that is right for you.

In this article, we will look at demiromantic people and how they “do” relationships. Are you curious about how a demiromantic person would initiate a romantic relationship? Do you want to know how you can approach a relationship with a demiromantic person?

Perhaps by the time you finish reading this article, you’ll know if that sounds like you or if you’re already in a similar romantic relationship.

We should caution you not to be too deadset on finding a label. We are who we are, love whom we love, and love in the way we innately know.

How Pop Culture Says We Feel an Attraction

Movies and novels favor the “instant romantic attraction” — the sudden knowledge of an instant love between the main characters. There are very few demiromance novels or movies. That is understandable. Readers and moviegoers don’t have hours to wait for the main characters to “grow into love.”

The way these relationships are formed can be explained in two general steps.

First, you see the person and you’re instantly attracted to them before getting to know them or even asking them out on a date. Later, in some cases, a bond is created between you and the other person.

The romantic attraction was made upon “first sight,” whether it began with a crush, a sexual relationship, or a romantic relationship. You may form a close bond after the initial crush or the first few dates. The deeper emotional bond may come after the initial romantic or sexual relationship.

How the Demiromantic Experiences an Attraction

Contrary to the way the attraction began, as stated above, the demiromantic feels an attraction to another person they already know.

Examples of demiromantic love stories in pop culture can be found on network or cable TV shows like Friends. Hello! Ross and Rachel, Chandler and Monica. It took these hilarious couples 10 years to find love! Glee is another demiromantic example. Just Friends is a film with this theme.

The demiromantic is often bewildered by the idea of having multiple crushes or engaging in sexual activity with someone they don’t yet know. They seem to unintentionally fall in love with someone they already know well.

Experts describe the way a demiromantic experiences a romantic or even a sexual attraction is through a previously established bond with their object of affection. It’s not often that the demiromantic will “seize the day” with a stranger. Instead, the demiromantic person will often fall for a close friend through whatever connection they built that created a close bond.

Typically, in demiromantic people, the bond will lead to romantic and sexual attraction. It gets a bit deeper when you include asexual, or grey-As, and other sexual orientations that also identify with the demiromantic person’s “laws of attraction.”

Monica Renae, a licensed associate professional counselor in Atlanta said demiromantic and demisexual people “require a deeper understanding of people before sexual attraction manifests whereas most other people, with the exclusion of asexuals, experience the general sexual attraction without knowing much of anything about the individual(s).

“Demisexuals and demiromantic [people] focus on emotional bonding, those connections lead to different aspects of the relationship,” Renae added.

What’s the Difference?

The first difference you can gather from the previous section of this article deals with ways different people are attracted to other people. However, this isn’t the difference we’re referring to here.

Many people believe that a demiromantic person is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but this is not always true. Someone’s romantic orientation has nothing to do with their sexual orientation nor sexual identity.

Demiromantic, aromantic, and alloromantic are adjectives describing the way a person develops a sexual or romantic attraction. Demisexual, asexual, and allosexual are types of sexual orientation. One’s sexual identity is more specific to a grey-A or a queerplatonic subcategory.

This roadmap of crossroads and intersections connecting romantic orientation to a sexual orientation and a sexual identity can get confusing, so let’s return to examining demiromantic relationships.

The Burning Question Now Is…

Are you feeling a little bit like you may fit the bill of a demiromantic person? Many people share these feelings of being demiromantic, some more strictly than others.

Demiromantics can be homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual or asexual. Sexual orientation does not determine how we develop a primary attraction or the secondary attraction.

If you feel this may describe you or a loved one, check out some of the most common characteristics of a demiromantic person.

Say, for instance, you tend to desire a more intimate relationship as you emotionally bond with a person. This bond proves to be a gateway to developing more romantically charged feelings. You then discover this romantic attraction has been blooming right beneath your nose and you can no longer deny that you love this person with whom you never intended to fall in love.

Another typical trait of the demiromantic person can be a tendency to fall for a longtime friend, colleague, or business partner. On some level, you’ve found that you created a strong emotional bond with your crush. However, if your crush isn’t also on the same demiromantic wavelength, they aren’t looking at you through the same rose-colored glasses that you view them. You’ve possibly been locked into the “friend zone” before the romantic attraction can be explored.

As a demiromantic person, you may have thought of your non-demiromantic friends as silly or strange for their automatically developed feelings for strangers. This does not mean a demisexual or a demiromantic person can’t have casual sex with strangers.

A demiromantic person can be a demisexual, but this is not necessarily the case. There’s a clear difference between romantic orientation and sexual orientation. Not all demiromantic people are demisexuals.

Simply put: Love and sex are not the same things. They often go together, but it is possible to have one without the other.

An additional trait of demiromantic people is the lack of understanding of the speed dates and blind dates that the non-demiromantic crew enjoys. Maybe you don’t relate to the whole idea, or maybe it scares the bejesus out of you. Either way, many demiromantic people openly refuse to engage in these dating schemes while a few may find these events fun.

It’s not that a demiromantic person is against the idea of dating. They just generally enjoy dating people they already know.

As a demiromantic person, you may not want to act on any of your romantic feelings that have developed. Perhaps you do not want your feelings to be reciprocated. Then again, maybe you do. As noted before, it is an individual and often complicated thing.

The wide array of ways a person expresses their secondary attraction makes the demiromantic spectrum very fluid and open-ended. This spectrum includes the possible sexual identity and sexual orientation of each demiromantic person, making the term “demiromantic” only an adjective describing the specific ways a person may understand or experience romantic attraction.

There are several types of attraction. For example, an aesthetic attraction may involve a person’s intelligence, spiritual beliefs, or morals. Other types of attractions include, emotional, sexual, romantic, and physical.

It’s important that you don’t get too caught up in how another demiromantic person feels their attraction to others. Consider yourself and decide if this adjective rings any bells in your life. Put aside your known sexual identity or orientation for a moment. Your past success or failure rates in having your romantic feelings reciprocated by the object of your desire are mostly irrelevant. It’s only the description or label, not anything else.

What Does a Relationship With a Demiromantic Person Look Like?

This one goes out to the person who’s struggling to identify with their demiromantic loved one, or a person who is finding it difficult to label their personal feelings. Maybe you are reading this article to learn the reasons why the demiromantic person develops romantic attraction the way they do — without a primary attraction in the first place.

The main thing to remember is that each demiromantic person is different. You will likely not be the first one to share your specific experiences with attraction, romantic or otherwise, with another demiromantic person. You will also not be the last.

These identifiable romantic feelings are much more common than you may think. You’re definitely not alone in the demiromantic and demisexual ways of developing your secondary attraction, romantic or sexual, and how it affects your dating goals.

Here are a few setbacks a demiromantic person or demisexual may face in the dating scene. When you’ve been the object of the demiromantic person’s attention and you kind of like it, we will explain a bit about the sex life with a demiromantic or demisexual and what it may look like for the loved one of such people.

Blind Dates, Crushes, and Perfect Timing for Demiromantic People

Some demiromantic people enjoy going out to meet new friends, dates, or going solo just like any other person. Some will try to casually date mere acquaintances at least once. Other demiromantic people are happy to strengthen an already existing friendship and then make their move to a romantic relationship.

A big thing with the “rules” of the demiromantic spectrum include the close emotional bond. This means that no matter how long the process may be for one friendly relationship to come into the romantic attraction stage, it can be shorter with the next demiromantic person, or perhaps even longer.

Whether the demiromantic person is a bit quicker in falling or exponentially slower, it’s the natural process in which the secondary attraction operates.

The development of romantic feelings is always a unique-to-you process. The main thing that makes a demiromantic person a “demiromantic” is the way they are attracted to a potential future partner. It has nothing to do with time. Time is only the path that leads to experiencing a secondary attraction, versus the more common primary setup of a romantic or sexual relationship.

Fear of Rejection and Asexual Demiromantics

Some demiromantic people ignore their romantic feelings because they cannot feel the initial attraction in a conventional way and may fear they will be rejected. The fear may stem from the length of time that elapsed before they realized their romantic attraction. This is why demiromantic people often find themselves locked away in the “friend zone.”

This timing issue alone may make a demiromantic person more fearful of rejection than others when seeking to date or establish a relationship. This can be intensified if they are also asexual. An asexual person may feel crippling fear of rejection in dating because they know they aren’t sexually charged enough, or at all, for their potential love interest.

Sex Life With the Demiromantic or Demisexual

If you’re already deeply involved with a demiromantic person, you already know that a romantic and sexual relationship is possible and fulfilling. Remember, demiromanticism and demisexuality are different things that have unique meanings. Romantic feelings and sexual ones are hardly the same. Everyone’s got their own appetite for pleasure or romance — demiromantic, demisexual, or otherwise.

If the concept seems to just live in your mind, it may be time to have some discussions with your demiromantic love interest.

The Difference Between Demiromantic and Demisexual People

A demisexual is a sexual person, but the “demi” in their sexuality only means that they would prefer to be intimate with a person with whom they already have an emotional bond. The term “demiromantic” describes a romantic attraction, while “demisexual” is a sexual identity.

There are already coined terms for homosexual and heterosexual demiromantic people. A person who feels any significant attraction to someone of the same sex or gender identifies as either homo-demisexual or homo-romantic. The person who feels attracted to someone of the opposite sex or gender is called a hetero-demisexual or hetero-romantic.

There are many avenues in which a demiromantic person or demisexual may discover themselves through friendships, romance, sex, and romantic partners. There’s no set way to live to which a demiromantic person or demisexual must strictly adhere. People are people, which is beautifully unique.

If you’re involved with a demiromantic or demisexual, check out these cool flags to support your loved one’s romanticism and sexuality. The flag represents the various ways that love is felt.

The black triangle starts the symbols which continue in green then purple as a horizontal halfway mark. White and grey combine alternately on each half of the flag’s length to form a heart behind the more vivid hues.

Check it out before your next big fun hoopla you both attend so you can show off the love that made the flag a thing in the first place!

So, You’re a Demiromantic…

The most facsinating thing about a romantic attraction is that it’s scientifically backed, and you can feel freer to discover the depth of your emotions. As we have previously noted, in this area of human experiences, everyone is “normal.”

This includes the asexual demiromantic with no sexual desires for anyone on one end of the spectrum to the demisexual with just a few romantic feelings for a few people but a lot of sexual feelings for others.

No matter your sexual or romantic orientation, it’s all yours and the right partner for you will be there through your self-discovery!

She particularly loves working with clients in the areas of dating and relationships, life purpose, and self-confidence.

What Are Some of the Best Dating Activities to Get to Know Someone Better?

While it’s easy to get into the default mode of grabbing a drink or a meal for a date, there are so many other choices for a date that can provide an even better opportunity to get to know each other.

Get moving! There’s something about walking with someone that seems to get the gab going. Visit a park, hit a trail, or grab a coffee and walk around the city… get strolling and watch the conversation flow.

Play together! Go bowling, throw some darts or an axe, or try your luck at miniature golf. Some friendly competition and harmless smack talk can make for a fun, relaxed experience where you get to see each other’s playful side. It’s hard to not have some good laughs when your darts somehow end up in the ceiling tiles (true dating story from yours truly).

Which Dating Activities Make It Difficult to Learn More About Someone?

As I mentioned above, the default date is often grabbing a drink or a meal. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but because it’s the typical date, it can feel like you are repeating the same experience and questions and answers over and over again, yawn.

Choosing a more unique and interactive activity will help the experience of the date stand out from the crowd and prevent the bland, cookie-cutter conversation.

It is also a good idea to mix up the settings of your dates when you want to get to know someone better. For example, if all of your dates are drinks at a bar, you don’t know how they will be in a non-alcohol-aided environment. Diversify the experiences so that you can get to know different aspects of each other.

Is There Behavior on a Date That Indicates That Someone Is Not Being Honest About Themselves?

There are a couple of potential red flags that you should look out for when it comes to a person’s honesty and authenticity. First, if your date avoids answering your questions directly, proceed with much caution. And, if everything they tell you about themselves and their life sounds perfect – sorry darlin’, but it’s probably too good to be true. Honest, genuine people have real conversations and can answer your questions directly because they have nothing to hide.

What Should Everyone Know About the Person They Are Dating After the First Few Dates?

After a handful of dates, you should know what the person is interested in or passionate about, what they are looking for in a relationship (casual or commitment?), and their general ideas and plans for their future. While I am all for having fun, if you aren’t learning more about these aspects of a person, you could be spending your valuable time with someone who is ultimately not a match for you.

What Are Some of the Most Unique First Date Plans You Would Recommend?

At the risk of beating a dead horse, avoiding the typical drinks or happy hour date actually feels unique these days. A first date doesn’t need to be complicated or extravagant to be memorable.

In addition to the ideas mentioned above, some of my first date favorites are: grabbing an ice cream, going to a dog park together, attending a wine tasting, visiting a museum, and going on a picnic.

What Are the Most Important Things Couples Should Discuss Before They Move In Together?

The first thing to consider in regards to moving in together is “why?” This may seem obvious to most people as they figure that they are in love and want to live their life together; they are taking the logical next step in their relationship. This would be the best reason to move in together and give the couple the strongest opportunity for success. However, I have found that couples have been moving in together because of what I call “logistics”. For example, when one person’s lease renewal is coming up, and they don’t want to sign another lease because they feel they would want to move in together within the year.

Another example is to save money by not having the cost of two residences. There are many more reasons people choose to move in together that are not strictly about the couple or the relationship. These reasons to move in together rush the natural development of relationships. When rushing the relationship for logistical purposes, you don’t have a chance to really find out if you are the best match, including being able to live together.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="https://cupidslight.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/AdobeStock_388453239-scaled.jpeg" alt="Q & A with Stephanie Mintz.
Are There Indications That a Couple Is Likely to Be Successful After Moving In Together? Are There Indications That Danger Is Ahead?

If your communication isn’t as strong as possible, there is a good chance you are going to run into difficulties. This doesn’t mean you aren’t a good match for living together and for your future together, this means that working on your communication skills before moving in together is going to be important. The more you can create a plan before moving in together, the easier the transition can be as there is a lot that must be discussed and agreed upon. If you do not have great communication skills, then it would be a wise idea to get help as a couple to improve said communication skills.

If you have not seriously discussed plans in great detail for the requisite finances involved in moving in together, and you do not feel comfortable having these conversations, I highly recommend getting support to be able to do this. Finances can create a lot of stress, pressure, and arguments in relationships. It is better to find out, before you move in together, whether you match in your thoughts on finances.

What Is the Best Way to Talk About House Issues When Your Roommate Is Your Romantic Partner?

A lot of the conflicts that arise for roommates are not that different than couples moving in together. Household chores and finances are part of living together, no matter what type of relationship you have. All people involved need to feel respected, heard and appreciated. They also must feel everyone is contributing, and that there is a good balance.

Having great communication skills is very important for every type of relationship. Understanding the importance of what I call the “How” and “When” can make all of the difference. Plans and expectations need to be agreed upon and implemented as soon as possible.

What Are Some of the Most Common Issues That Couples Encounter After They Move In Together?

The difference in what I call, “Living Styles” can create difficulties. Some people like everything organized and clean all of the time, while others are fine with a certain amount of disorganization and mess. It is important to discuss this right away, ideally before you move in together, to understand each other’s needs and how to be able to best accommodate those needs as much as possible.

Household chores are another area that needs to be discussed right away so that plans and expectations can be agreed upon. If this is not done, then resentments can grow which may affect the relationship in many negative ways.

Finances need to be discussed in depth as people have different spending and saving habits. Finding an agreement both people feel comfortable, both following and adhering to, it is the best way to achieve financial harmony in regards to the living situation.

Are There Ways to Test Your Compatibility Living Together Before You Actually Move In With Your Partner?

Analyzing the extent to which you align with your partner on the above topics will help set you up for a better chance at a successful cohabitation.

What Is the Most Common Mistake Someone Makes on a First Date?

The most common mistake people make on first dates is to work too hard to impress. First dates are about trying to gain an understanding to determine if you are even remotely compatible with the person. Stop worrying so much about what they think of you, and start thinking more about what you think of them.

What Is the Best Way to Make a Good First Impression on a Date?

Be an enthusiastic and engaged listener. The more you are genuinely interested in what your date is talking about, the better the conversation will go from their perspective, and the stronger the connection you will form together. With that in mind, a first date shouldn’t feel like an interview, so don’t just rapid-fire questions at your date — ask relevant questions and be prepared to share about yourself too!

Which Behavior Is an Absolute No-No on a First Date?

I often see men in particular make three specific conversational no-nos on first dates.

First, your salary and finances are not relevant conversation topics on a first date. The woman you’re out with can infer everything she wants to know from your behavior and lifestyle. Directly discussing your financial situation this early turns everyone off, (with the exception of the gold diggers and you’ll want to avoid them anyway).

Second, the same way you do not want to hear about the other men she is dating, she does not want to hear about the other women you’re dating. This should go without saying, but you would be shocked as to how often I hear my single girlfriends complain about this!

Third, unless politics play a vital role in your life, you might want to steer away from any political discussions on the first date. You run the risk of saying something that the person across the table from you may misconstrue, which, in turn, could run things off the rails before they have an opportunity to get going.

If You’ve Committed a First-Date “Don’t” What Are Some of the “Do’s” That Can Get Things Back on Track?

I’d avoid calling more attention to the faux pas; your best bet is to apologize and move on!

What Are Some Good Ways to Think About First-Date Dos and Don’ts While Avoiding Anxiety and Stress?

Specifically, on the topic of anxiety and stress, remember that your date is a stranger who you may (or may not), ever see again. It’s a safe bet that she also feels anxious about your date too. There is no need to feel pressure to perform. Simply show up, put your best foot forward, and enjoy the evening!
